Loans & Library Cards
How to get a library card
To get your free library card, bring one piece of identification that shows your name and address, to the front desk at either the Buckhorn or Cavendish branch. After you fill out a membership form, it’ll be processed immediately. You’ll be able to borrow books and other materials right away.
Library membership is free to all residents of Trent Lakes, the City of Kawartha Lakes, North Kawartha Township, Haliburton County, and Selwyn Township. Non-residents of the above-mentioned municipalities must pay a fee of $5.00 per year, per family.
All information in the library database that pertains to membership records, or identifies individual members and their borrowing records, is strictly confidential.
If you lose your card, a replacement card can be issued for $ 5.00.
- Books, magazines, and CDs: 3 weeks
- Videos and DVDs: 1 week
- *Extended loans are available upon request.
You can renew materials online, or by calling 705-657-3695. If a reserve has been placed on any of the materials you’ve borrowed, renewals are not allowed.
Each borrower is responsible for all materials loaned on her/his card, and will be billed for loss or damage. Parents/guardians are responsible for material selected and borrowed by their children. The Library reserves the right to suspend borrowing privileges.
There is no general limit on the number of items which may be borrowed. However, the library may, from time to time, impose limits when there is a heavy demand for certain materials.
- Books, magazines, and CDs: 20 cents/day
- Videos and DVDs: $1.00/day
If there’s an item you would like to borrow that’s not part of our collection, we can attempt to have a copy sent from another library in Ontario through an inter-library loan system.
The Inter-library Loan Request Form is available at the front desk. When filling out the form, be sure to provide as much information as possible, including an expiry date for your request. When your loan arrives, you’ll be notified by phone.
Please note: The inter-library loan process can be lengthy, and there is no standard turn-around time. Also, we cannot obtain new or current-year titles through the inter-library loan system.
